Tossed aside like an old shoe...

This is one of those Senseless Acts of Beauty (and I remind you that beauty is its own discussion).

Lately, I've taken to really appreciating the old shoes hanging from telephone wires and tree branches. In my neighborhood there are seven or eight pairs of shoes hanging in the low heavens. If this asthetic pleases you as it pleases me, I encourage a mass shoe upheaval. Tie your old shoes together by the laces and give em a whirl.

Don't throw those loved to death old companions into the trash... give them a proper sky burial :) Distribute evenly through the town, in a specific neighborhood, or on one special tree where they may congregate. I have heard rumor of a large tree near Santa Cruz that is proudly bearing countless of the Retired Ones.

Truly a senseless act (of beauty)...

Funny, a friend and I were cruising through this great old cemetary in Cleveland, really almost a world unto itself, and we ran across this big tree full of old shoes. Someone had gone to great lengths to create this show tree. It really was very bizarre and just one of those moments. She took pictures but I've never seen them, maybe I'll go back and see if I can find it again.

File under: Strange, unexpected surreal art.

well recently in a meditation, I got in touch with what an old shoe feels like...because after all, all form is a form of energy and energy is very much alive. from that meditation I actually began taking better care of things I previously took for granted.

I was in the military once and throwing shoes over the power lines and phone lines was a long standing tradition right before someone left the unit to finally go home or transferred to a different duty station.

It was a life affirming versus a military affirming way of snubbing your nose at the upper rank, those that tried(read that as M-A-D-E!!!) to make your life difficult for the sake of it, and letting your friends, buddies, etc. remember that you may be gone in body but that your still present in spirit for rabble-rousing, carousing, and just BEING there for friends that are going through some very often intense s*?!.

I've talked to other vets from different branches and eras and there seems to be a general consesus that that's the proper way to "bury" so to speak one's boots, etc.

Thanks for the flashback to one of my better experiences with Uncle Sam (now currently known as Uncle Ass-Clown).
